After graduating from Asheville High School in 1988, he enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where he began his studies toward a Bachelor of Science in Music Technology.

From 1988 through 1990, his focus was jazz guitar, solfeggio, music theory, formal analysis and composition. He continued his education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, adding classical guitar to his portfolio. From 1989, both Jason and Adam played with several Reggae bands, which lead them to form their own six piece group, One Tribe.

With Jason as lead guitarist and vocalist and writing and arranging most of the music, One Tribe played clubs, festivals, college campuses, weddings, and, in 1994, the band was invited to play the Vermont Reggae Festival. One Tribe has opened for numerous, international reggae bands, including Steel Pulse, Pato Banton, Culture, Itals, Yellowman, Eek-a-Mouse and others. The band produced its own CD that same year, selling nearly 5,000 copies within six months. They were on the rosters of several booking agents, including East Coast Entertainment and Ray Records. Their CD was at almost every college radio station east of the Mississippi.

From the late 1990's to the present, Jason has primarily concentrated on composing and has an extensive repertoire of original music and lyrics. In 2003 he completed studio recordings of 12 songs, 6 of which are included on his demo CD, on which Jason plays all guitar, bass and keyboard tracks and sings all vocal tracks. The remaining 6 on his demo CD are from the One Tribe CD, "Music for the Soul", which he also wrote. Drums, horns and percussion were played by studio musicians, all of whom are former members of One Tribe, including Adam Sitnick on drums.

Jason continues to compose and is completing his music degree.
